ISLAMABAD — In a major step toward digital transformation, Director General Immigration and Passports, Mustafa Ali Randhawa, chaired a high-level meeting at the Passport Headquarters today to finalize a cashless payment system. The meeting included key representatives from JazzCash, EasyPaisa, Zindigi App, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), and NADRA, all of whom reached a landmark agreement to digitize the passport fee collection process.
The move is designed to eliminate the need for physical bank visits, allowing citizens to settle their passport fees directly through their mobile phones. By integrating popular fintech platforms, the department aims to streamline the application process and reduce the long queues traditionally seen at bank branches.
Transparency and Efficiency Through Technology
DG Mustafa Ali Randhawa emphasized that shifting to a digital-first model is essential for modernizing public services. He noted that the cashless system would significantly enhance transparency while providing a faster, more secure experience for applicants nationwide.
"The implementation of a cashless payment system will not only increase accountability but also ensure that citizens have access to swift and secure services," Randhawa stated. He further added that the department is committed to leveraging cutting-edge technology to make passport services more efficient and user-friendly.
Key Features of the New Payment Model
The collaboration between the government and private fintech leaders marks a significant shift in Pakistan's administrative landscape. Key highlights of the initiative include:
Multi-Platform Support: Payments can be made via JazzCash, EasyPaisa, and the Zindigi app.
NBP & NADRA Integration: Ensuring a secure backend link between financial institutions and identity databases.
Instant Verification: Real-time digital receipts to speed up the processing of passport applications.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports to adopt "e-governance" standards, ensuring that essential travel documents are accessible with minimal bureaucratic hurdles.
