RAWALPINDI, Pakistan — The three-day International Conference & Expo on Life Sciences (ICELS) - 2026 officially commenced on Monday at the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR). Organized by the Faculty of Sciences in collaboration with Himalaya Hemp & Health (Pvt.) Ltd. and Evolution EduTech Pakistan, the mega-event opened with a powerful call for global scientific innovation to combat environmental degradation.
Themed “Bio-Innovations for a Changing Climate: Science, Sustainability and Solutions,” the international forum has drawn prominent scientists, policymakers, academic leaders, and industry executives from across the globe. The event serves as a critical nexus for addressing the intersecting crises of biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse, and agricultural instability.
Distinguished guest speaker Prof. Dr. Khalid M. Khan, former President of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, inaugurated the ceremony as Chief Guest. He warned that climate change, food insecurity, rapid glacier retreat, and environmental decline represent the defining existential challenges of the modern era.
Advancing Climate-Smart Solutions and Bio-Innovations
Speaking at the launch, PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman highlighted the critical need for climate-smart scientific solutions tailored specifically to Pakistan's vulnerable ecosystems. He noted that the university's primary focus remains on securing the country's highly stressed agricultural frameworks, water reserves, and public health systems against volatile weather patterns.
Chief Organizer and Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Rahmatullah Qureshi, welcomed the attendees by framing modern universities as the fundamental engines of societal progress. He emphasized that emerging public health diseases and ecological shifts can no longer be solved in isolation, requiring aggressive, interdisciplinary research partnerships.
To drive these practical breakthroughs, the conference is hosting specialized technical tracks featuring elite keynote speakers from several nations, including:
Türkiye, Egypt, Morocco, Iran ,Poland, Uzbekistan
Strengthening Global Scientific Networks
The event also drew high-level diplomatic praise, with U.S. State Department representative Mr. Kevin Sessink attending the inaugural sessions. He commended ICELS-26 for fostering deep international cooperation and creating vital mentorship pipelines for young Pakistani researchers and graduate students.
Over the next two days, the expo will continue to bridge the gap between academic research and commercial application. By aligning its final recommendations with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the conference aims to deliver actionable policy frameworks to help developing economies build long-term climate resilience.
