ISLAMABAD — On April 12, 2026, the Russian Embassy in Pakistan hosted a prestigious wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in Fatima Jinnah Park. The event marked the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight, celebrating a milestone that fundamentally altered the course of human history and technological progress.
The ceremony brought together high-ranking diplomats and officials, including Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev and Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary Ayesha Ali. The presence of Ambassadors from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan underscored the collective legacy of the Vostok-1 mission.
Gagarin: A Symbol of Intellectual Triumph
In his keynote address, Ambassador Khorev highlighted that Yuri Gagarin’s 1961 flight was more than a national achievement; it was the dawn of the Universal exploration era. He described the mission as a "powerful symbol of humanity’s determination" to overcome terrestrial obstacles in pursuit of noble, ambitious goals.
Khorev paid tribute to the "selfless and tireless efforts" of millions of Soviet citizens from various republics whose collaboration made the launch possible. Key organizations represented at the event included:

Representing the Government of Pakistan, Additional Foreign Secretary Ayesha Ali emphasized the "multifaceted relations" between Moscow and Islamabad. She noted that shared commemorations like International Cosmonautics Day serve as a bridge to strengthen friendship and mutual respect.
Ali further detailed the expanding cooperation between the two nations across several strategic sectors:
