PIA Restores Direct Flight Operations to London Heathrow
In a historic move for Pakistan’s aviation sector, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) officially resumed its direct flight service from Islamabad to London Heathrow today, ending a six-year hiatus. The inaugural flight departed from Islamabad International Airport at 12:00 PM, marking the formal restoration of a vital air bridge between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
The departure was marked by a high-profile ceremony attended by the Secretary of Defense, the British High Commissioner, and the Director General of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Their presence underscored the diplomatic and economic significance of restoring direct national carrier access to one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
Massive Demand Leads to Sold-Out Inaugural Flights
The revival of the route has been met with overwhelming public enthusiasm. Reports confirm that 100% of tickets for the first flight from Islamabad to London, as well as the return leg from London to Pakistan, were fully booked days in advance.
This surge in bookings highlights the critical need for direct travel options for the Pakistani diaspora in the UK. For over half a decade, travelers were forced to rely on expensive connecting flights, a burden that the restoration of PIA's London route aims to alleviate.
A Major Milestone for Pakistan Civil Aviation
The resumption is seen as a major victory for the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Aviation. Officials at the ceremony expressed optimism that this move will significantly boost PIA’s revenue and restore its footprint in the European market.
