ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The Ambassador of Poland to Pakistan, Maciej Pisarski, visited the National Press Club (NPC) in Islamabad to participate in its signature "Meet the Press" program.
The honorable guest was warmly received by NPC President Abdul Razaq Siyal, Secretary Dr. Furqan Rao, and other senior journalists. During the forum, Ambassador Pisarski highlighted the deep diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations while offering crucial perspectives on regional and global security.
The Ambassador emphasized that both diplomacy and the media play an indispensable role in fostering national and international harmony, noting that the Polish Embassy maintains a deeply rooted relationship with the Pakistani journalistic community.
Escalating Pakistan-Poland Trade and the Impact of GSP Plus
Addressing the media, Ambassador Pisarski revealed that economic ties between Pakistan and Poland are on a rapid upward trajectory. The bilateral trade volume has reached $1.3 billion, with a highly favorable balance for Islamabad as $1.2 billion of that total constitutes Pakistani exports.
He clarified that the European Union's GSP Plus status is designed specifically to enhance the access of Pakistani goods to European markets, thereby improving the quality of life and economic benchmarks for local citizens.
Strategic Blueprints for Future Economic Cooperation
Looking ahead, the Ambassador outlined several key sectors primed for immediate institutional expansion:
Tech and Modern Sectors: Both nations are working to scale up joint ventures in technology, management, and the Information Technology (IT) sector.
Foreign Direct Investment: Multiple Polish companies are successfully operating on the ground in Pakistan, with several new investment projects currently on the cards.
Border Security and Migration Dialogues: Following the recent visit of Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski to Pakistan, both nations have initiated open dialogues to curb illegal migration toward Europe via the Belarus border, a matter also discussed productively with Interior Minister Mohsen Naqvi.
Regional Stability: The U.S.-Iran Conflict and Ukraine
Ambassador Pisarski highly commended Pakistan’s strategic diplomatic efforts to mediate and broker peace between the United States and Iran. He reiterated that structured dialogue remains the premier mechanism for resolving international disputes.
"There are very few countries globally that maintain trust and strong ties with both sides of the U.S.-Iran conflict. Pakistan’s role as a mediator is a profound reflection of that mutual trust," Ambassador Pisarski stated.
Turning to global conflicts, the Ambassador reaffirmed Poland's strict stance on state sovereignty, calling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine entirely unjustified due to its severe negative impacts on the global economy. He noted that the Ukraine issue must be resolved in accordance with UN resolutions. Furthermore, touching upon South Asian dynamics, he suggested that Pakistan and India could unlock massive regional benefits by adopting dialogue models similar to ongoing shifts in the Middle East.
Reviving Historic Ties in Tourism, Defense, and Education
The Ambassador fondly recalled that Pakistan has been a premier destination for Polish adventurers and mountaineers for decades.
Mountaineering Milestones: He highlighted that the first woman to successfully summit K2 in 1986 was a Polish mountaineer, noting that thousands of Polish tourists continue to visit Pakistan’s northern areas annually.
Defense Collaboration: Polish pilots historically played a vital, structural role in refining and training the Pakistan Air Force. While the COVID-19 pandemic caused temporary disruptions, both nations are actively working to restore the full scale of these defense ties.
Affordable Higher Education: Polish universities offer top-tier European standard education to Pakistani students at a fraction of the cost of other Western European destinations, making Poland an increasingly attractive academic hub.
