ISLAMABAD — In a warm display of brotherly ties, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation today with H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Turkiye, to exchange heartiest greetings on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The call highlighted the deep-rooted personal and diplomatic bond between the two leaders and their nations.
Focus on Afghan Peace and Regional Stability
Beyond festive greetings, the two leaders engaged in a substantive dialogue regarding the evolving situation in Afghanistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif specifically lauded Turkiye’s constructive efforts in mediating peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of the recently announced temporary ceasefire during the Eid holidays, attributing its success to collaborative diplomatic pressure. Both leaders issued a joint call to the international community, urging regional stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy over conflict to resolve long-standing issues.
Advancing the Bilateral Strategic Partnership
Reflecting on a year of high-level engagement, the Prime Minister fondly recalled President Erdogan’s historic visit to Pakistan in February 2025. This was followed by the Prime Minister’s reciprocal visits to Turkiye in April and May 2025, which set a new trajectory for economic and defense cooperation.
Key points of the bilateral discussion included:
Economic Cooperation: A commitment to advancing trade ties across all spheres of mutual interest.
Institutional Ties: Working "assiduously" to implement agreements signed during the 2025 summits.
Brotherly Bonds: Reaffirming that Pakistan and Turkiye remain indispensable partners in the Muslim world.
The conversation concluded with both leaders praying for the prosperity of their respective nations and the wider Muslim Ummah.
