ISLAMABAD: — The National Shabina Qiyam-ul-Lail officially commenced at the iconic Faisal Mosque on Sunday, marking the start of the spiritual peak of the last Ashra of Ramadan. Organized through a joint venture between the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Dawah Academy and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, the event welcomed approximately 500 Mutakifeen and hundreds of additional worshippers to engage in deep prayer and Quranic reflection.
Extended Duration for Spiritual Reflection
During the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ilyas, Director General of the Dawah Academy, highlighted a significant shift in this year's programming. Historically limited to three nights, the National Shabina gathering has been extended to seven nights following special support from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
This expansion aims to provide a more profound experience for the faithful. "This allows the recitation of the Holy Quran with proper pause, reflection, and reverence," Dr. Ilyas stated, noting that the slower pace significantly aids listeners in their spiritual journey.
Honoring a Decades-Old Tradition
The initiative, which first began in 1989, continues to serve as a cornerstone of Pakistan's religious heritage. Officials emphasized the importance of the gathering in fostering a national bond with the Quran. Key figures acknowledged for their support included:
Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs
Dr. Sajid Mahmood Chohan, Secretary of the Ministry
Hafiz Abdul Quddus, Director General of the Ministry
Platform for Elite National Qaris
Hafiz Abdul Quddus explained that the event serves as a prestigious platform for the country's vocal talent. Reciters are selected based on their performance in rigorous district, provincial, and national Qira’at competitions.
During the opening night, the congregation was led by distinguished voices:
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ilyas (First four units of Taraweeh)
Qari Khalid Muhammad Durrani (Second part of the Quran)
Qari Sajid Kamal and Qari Yahya Anwar (Third and fourth parts)
Prayers for National Prosperity
As the last Ashra begins, Dr. Ilyas urged all participants to offer special prayers for the stability of Pakistan, the armed forces, and the unity of the global Muslim Ummah. The ceremony was hosted by Dr. Qari Zia ur Rehman, Incharge of the Faisal Mosque Islamic Centre, ensuring a seamless start to the week-long spiritual marathon.
