ISLAMABAD — Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed on Wednesday that Pakistan’s fuel supply remains stable and secure despite significant price volatility and "tightness" in the international petroleum markets. Chairing a daily review meeting of the Committee to Monitor Petrol Prices, the Minister assured the public that national reserves are well-stocked to meet upcoming seasonal demand.
Robt Diesel and Petrol Reservesus
The Committee’s latest data reveals that diesel stocks currently provide a 24-day cover, a critical buffer for the economy. Petrol availability also remains at comfortable levels, bolstered by a consistent schedule of refinery operations and steady imports.
To further strengthen the national cushion, several crude shipments are currently in transit. These incoming cargoes are expected to arrive shortly, ensuring that the fuel supply chain remains uninterrupted during peak consumption periods.
Addressing Global Market Pressures
While domestic stocks are healthy, the Committee noted that international markets are facing increased pressure. Rising global oil premiums and pricing shifts have tightened the landscape for importers.
T
o mitigate these external risks, the government is taking the following steps:
Financial Coordination: Enhanced cooperation with the State Bank of Pakistan to manage higher financing requirements for imports.
Bank Integration: Working closely with financial institutions to ensure seamless credit lines for oil marketing companies.
Supply Chain Monitoring: Intensified oversight to prevent hoarding and artificial shortages.
No Disruptions During Eid and Harvesting
The government has issued a clear directive to ensure smooth nationwide distribution ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr and the upcoming harvesting season. Both periods typically see a sharp rise in demand for transport and agricultural machinery.
Authorities confirmed that all major oil depots will remain fully operational. By maintaining energy security and minimizing the impact of global volatility, the government aims to protect the public from supply shocks during these high-priority weeks.
