London’s ExCeL became a meeting point for public-sector technology leaders on 23–24 September 2026 as DigiGov Expo 2026 brought together government departments, local authorities, technology companies and digital experts.
The event focused on how technology can improve public services, with artificial intelligence, data, cybersecurity, digital foundations and citizen experience among the main themes. The organisers said the event featured more than 3,000 digital, data and technology professionals, 150+ exhibitors and more than 200 public-sector and technology leaders.
AI and the future of government
Artificial intelligence was one of the biggest topics at DigiGov 2026. Discussions looked at how AI can be used in government while maintaining security, accountability and human oversight.
One session explored “Frontier AI in Government”, including how public-sector organisations can approach AI procurement and create value from emerging technologies.
The event also highlighted the growing interest in agentic AI—systems that can carry out more complex tasks while people remain responsible for important decisions.
Improving services for citizens
Technology is increasingly becoming part of everyday public services. DigiGov placed strong attention on making these services easier and more useful for citizens.
The event included a dedicated Citizen Experience Theatre, alongside sessions covering digital foundations and GovTech.
For me, this was one of the most important messages from the event. Digital transformation should not simply mean introducing new software. It should make services easier to access and improve the experience for the people who use them.
Cybersecurity remains a major concern
As government organisations become more dependent on digital systems, cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important.
DigiGov 2026 included a dedicated Cyber, Data & Security Theatre, where experts discussed issues surrounding data, security and the changing technology landscape.
The challenge for public-sector organisations is to adopt new technology while protecting sensitive information and maintaining public trust.
Bringing government and technology companies together
Another strong feature of DigiGov was the opportunity for government teams and technology providers to meet directly.
The exhibition included more than 150 technology suppliers, while a Government Village gave departments the opportunity to showcase their work and projects.
The UK Government Commercial Agency also attended the event, highlighting the importance of making informed technology procurement decisions within the public sector.
My view as a technology journalist
Attending DigiGov Expo 2026 gave me a useful look at how quickly digital technology is becoming part of the way government operates.
What stood out to me was that the discussion was not only about new technology. There was a strong focus on real-world challenges, security, procurement, public services and how technology can deliver practical results.
AI will clearly play an important role in the future of government, but successful digital transformation will require more than AI alone. Good data, secure systems, skilled people and a clear understanding of citizens' needs will remain equally important.
For me, DigiGov 2026 showed that the future of digital government is already being built—and the most successful technology will be the technology that makes public services simpler, safer and more useful for everyone.
