VIENNA, Austria (Zahid Ghani Chouhan) — The winner of the prestigious 70th Eurovision Song Contest has been officially crowned in the Austrian capital. In a thrilling and unexpected turn of events, Bulgarian pop sensation Dara captured the grand prize at the world’s largest live music competition, taking home the trophy with her high-energy performance of "Bangaranga."
Dara’s captivating performance defied initial expectations, winning over both international juries and millions of global voters. Her historic victory marks a monumental achievement for Bulgaria on the global musical stage.
Following a tense voting sequence, Israel’s representative Noam Bettan finished in a close second place, while Romania's Alexandra secured the third-place podium spot.
Disappointment for Host Nation Austria
While the Bulgarian delegation celebrated their historic triumph, the night ended in major disappointment for the host nation. Despite playing to a passionate home crowd in Vienna, Austria failed to gain momentum during the voting rounds, ultimately finishing next-to-last on the final leaderboard.
The Eurovision Song Contest is recognized globally as the largest musical event of its kind, reaching an estimated global audience of over 160 million viewers annually.
Following Eurovision tradition, Bulgaria’s groundbreaking win grants the country the provisional hosting rights for the upcoming 71st edition of the contest next year.
