Shangla, Pakistan — A woman was allegedly killed in the name of ‘honour’ in the remote mountainous region of Shangla, in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Police say a man suspected of the murder has been taken into custody.

According to the initial police report seen by TWA, the victim had been living at her father’s home for the past five to six months due to domestic disputes. Her husband, currently working in Saudi Arabia, had been away for several months. The couple had one child.

The victim’s father, who filed the complaint, said that the incident occurred on Thursday night when his daughter stepped outside the house. He claims to have heard gunshots and witnessed a man attacking her with an axe. The suspect allegedly fled the scene upon seeing him. The woman died on the spot due to severe injuries.

Police have arrested the suspect, identified as a relative of the victim, and recovered the weapon used in the attack. Investigators say the accused reportedly suspected the woman of “immoral behaviour,” which may have triggered the brutal assault.

The case has been registered at the Basham police station under Section 303 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Authorities say further investigation is underway.
