Award-winning Portuguese guitarist and composer Pedro Jóia to join Jazz Festival 2025 in Islamabad and Lahore from 23 to 28 May

Acclaimed Portuguese classic guitarist and composer, Pedro Jóia, is visiting Pakistan from the 23rd till the 28th may, at the invitation of the Embassy of Portugal in Islamabad, supported by the Camões-Institute for Cooperation and Language I.P., and Emirates Airlines.

 

Pedro Jóia will participate in the 2025 International Jazz Festival, with shows in Islamabad, Silk Road Culture Centre, the 23rd, and Lahore, Alhamra Art Center, the 25th, says press note. Bothe in Lahore and Islamabad the Portuguese classical guitarist and composer will participate in special recitals and jam sessions, masterclasses and interactions with the media, says press note.

 

Pedro Jóia presents a very solid and acclaimed artistic itinerary. As a soloist, he has performed with several orchestras and chamber groups from Portugal, Venezuela, Italy and China. His work is impacted by musical dimensions and influences from the rich Portuguese music environment but also from Brazil, Andalusia, Latin America, Brazil, Africa and Asia.

 

In 2008 and 2021 he received the coveted Carlos Paredes Prize, as the best classic guitar player. He also has been the musical director, for 7 years, of Mariza, a very much renowned Portuguese Fado Artist.

 

Pedro Jóia’s visit is part of a broader initiative celebrating, in May, the International Day of the Portuguese Language and Cultures of the CPLP and also marks the opening of the Portugal National Day’ program of celebrations in Pakistan.
