BEIJING — Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon during the latter’s official visit to China, highlighting the enduring strength of bilateral relations and outlining a shared vision for the future.

President Xi noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations over 50 years ago, China-New Zealand ties have remained resilient amid global changes, consistently setting a high standard for China’s engagement with Western developed nations.

As the two countries enter the second decade of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, President Xi emphasized the need to deepen cooperation and expand mutual benefits for both nations. He called for closer collaboration in trade, sustainable development, and people-to-people exchanges.

Xi also stressed the importance of jointly upholding a fair and just international order, with the United Nations at its core. He reaffirmed China’s and New Zealand’s shared commitment to multilateralism, supporting a rules-based international trading system centered on the World Trade Organization (WTO), and promoting global fairness and equity.
