web Desk: Turkmenistan is preparing a bold set of initiatives for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), reflecting its ambition to play a stronger role in global decision-making. At a recent government meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov presented President Serdar Berdimuhamedov with a strategic plan outlining the country’s priority positions for the coming political year.

According to Orient TM, This plan highlights Turkmenistan’s commitment to neutrality, peacebuilding, sustainable development, environmental diplomacy, and digital integration, positioning the country as an active and constructive voice in global affairs.

Peace and Security: Neutrality as a Global Value

Turkmenistan will propose adding “Neutrality for the Sake of Peace and Security” to the UNGA agenda, introducing draft resolutions on the importance of neutrality, establishing an International Mediation Day, and creating a UN Mediation Chamber. These initiatives seek to institutionalize Turkmenistan’s peacekeeping experience and strengthen its reputation as a trusted mediator.

Promoting a Culture of Peace and Trust

To strengthen humanitarian values in diplomacy, Turkmenistan plans to host:

An international forum, “Central Asia: A Space for Building a Peaceful Life.”
A global summit on peace, trust, and mutual respect.
Development of a “Code of International Trust.”
These steps aim to present Central Asia as a region of cooperation and creativity rather than confrontation.

Sustainable Development: Transport, Energy, and Digitalization

Turkmenistan is positioning itself as a Eurasian transport hub through new ports, highways, and railways while diversifying energy exports and investing in renewable energy.

At the UNGA, the country will propose:

Declaring 2026–2035 as the “UN Decade of Sustainable Transport.”
Recognizing energy connectivity as vital to sustainable development.
Establishing a Global Digital Integration Platform under the UN.
These initiatives promote transport connectivity, global energy stability, and participation in the digital future.

Environmental Diplomacy and Water Management

In response to climate and ecological challenges, Turkmenistan will advocate for:

A Regional Center to Combat Desertification.
Regional conventions on the Amu Darya and Syr Darya river basins.
A Regional Climate Technology Center.
Continuation of the UN Aral Sea Basin Program.
Hosting the Second Caspian Environmental Forum in 2026.
These proposals highlight how local initiatives can shape global environmental standards.

Humanitarian Initiatives

Turkmenistan will advance cultural and humanitarian diplomacy by proposing:

An International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security.
A Regional Platform for Young Peacekeepers.
An International Day of Multilingual Diplomacy.
A resolution on the cultural heritage of the Silk Road.

Commitment to International Law

Ashgabat also proposes declaring 2028 as the Year of International Law and is preparing its candidacy for a UN Security Council seat for 2031–2032.
