ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Pakistan, Albert Khorev, hosted a comprehensive diplomatic briefing in the capital to outline Moscow's official stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Held on May 19, 2026, the high-profile media event drew a significant gathering of prominent Pakistani journalists, editors, and members of the academic community.
Ambassador Khorev opened the session by acknowledging the strong bilateral alignment between Moscow and Islamabad at the international stage. He specifically praised Pakistan’s consistent diplomatic support at the United Nations General Assembly regarding Russia’s annual resolution to combat the glorification of Nazism.
Highlighting Peace Initiatives and Criticizing the Kiev Regime
Shifting focus to the theater of war, Ambassador Khorev underscored Russia's past peace initiatives, asserting that the current government in Kiev, heavily backed by Western powers, is deliberately prolonging active hostilities.
The Russian envoy raised serious concerns over internal governance issues within Ukraine. He drew the attention of the Pakistani academic community to what he described as a deteriorating domestic situation under President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"The forced mobilization strategies currently being deployed across Ukraine, paired with escalating corruption scandals involving members of Zelenskyy’s inner circle, reflect a deepening internal crisis," Ambassador Khorev stated during the press pool.
Condemnation of Infrastructure Attacks and Legal Aggression
The briefing took a sharp turn toward regional energy security and international law. The Ambassador strongly condemned ongoing drone and missile strikes targeting critical civilian and energy networks.
Threats to Energy Pipelines: Moscow explicitly sounded the alarm over targeted sabotage attempts against major international transit networks, including the "TurkStream" and "Blue Stream" pipelines, warning that such acts threaten continental energy corridors.
Rejection of Western Tribunals: The envoy labeled Western-backed mechanisms—such as the Register of Damage for Ukraine and the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression—as forms of institutional "legal aggression."
Diplomatic Warning: Ambassador Khorev explicitly warned that Russia would view any future accession to these legal mechanisms by neutral third countries as an overtly hostile diplomatic step.
Countering Disinformation and Preserving Cultural Heritage
The Russian Ambassador dedicated a significant portion of the forum to challenging dominant Western media narratives. He dismissed widespread allegations regarding historical human rights violations in Bucha and claims surrounding the displacement of youth as unfounded disinformation campaigns. Instead, he highlighted Moscow's ongoing humanitarian efforts to reunite families separated along the frontline borders.
On cultural diplomacy, Khorev touched upon the controversial "Scythian gold" collection, which was recently transferred to Ukraine by the Netherlands. He insisted that the historical treasure rightfully belongs to, and must be returned to, Crimean museums.
Concluding the press briefing, the embassy presented the book "Militia Romance" authored by Zakhar Prilepin. The text chronicles the personal experiences and accounts of Donbas residents navigating the regional geopolitical shifts following the critical political flashpoints of 2014.
