ISLAMABAD — Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Albert P. Khorev, attended the launch of author Munir Ahmed’s new book, “Ukraine War: Beyond the Headlines – An Alternative Narrative on the Russia–Ukraine Crisis,” in Islamabad on October 29, 2026. Addressing distinguished guests and media personnel, Ambassador Khorev commended the author's academic rigor and intellectual courage in exploring the root causes and geopolitical dimensions of the ongoing conflict.

The diplomat emphasized that the book offers a critical examination of European security dynamics by utilizing official documents, UN reports, and open-source data often overlooked by Western mainstream outlets.
Exposing Root Causes and Western Media Disinformation
Ambassador Khorev noted that the publication meticulously traces the historical trajectory of the conflict, from NATO's eastward expansion and the 2014 events in Kyiv to the current geopolitical landscape. He highlighted that the text challenges dominant Western narratives by documenting factual inconsistencies regarding major events, while offering detailed analyses of energy markets, Black Sea maritime safety, and regional security.

The Ambassador reiterated Russia's position that its military actions aim to secure its borders and build a stable European security architecture. He argued that responsibility for prolonged hostilities lies with Western nations and the Kyiv regime for abandoning early peace negotiations in March 2022.
Global Food Security and Trade Realities
Addressing international trade concerns, Ambassador Khorev presented trade figures from the 2025/2026 fiscal period to counter claims regarding global grain supplies:
Wheat Exports: Russia accounted for 23 percent of the global wheat trade, compared to Ukraine’s 7 percent.
Barley Market: Russia held a 20 percent share of barley exports, while Ukraine supplied 5 percent.
Destination of Exports: Approximately 70 percent of Ukrainian agricultural exports were directed to Western and European markets rather than developing nations.

He stated that Western sanctions and targeted actions against commercial shipping pose significant risks to international food supply chains, urging international pressure against attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea.
Commending Pakistan’s Balanced Neutrality
Ambassador Khorev expressed strong appreciation for Pakistan’s diplomatic stance, characterizing it as positive neutrality. He reaffirmed Russia's commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in key sectors, including agricultural commodities, energy supplies, and regional economic stability.
The ceremony concluded with the Ambassador reiterating that lasting peace requires addressing underlying security concerns and recognizing ground realities, expressing hope that the book will stimulate informed debate across South Asia.
