A high-level delegation of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), led by President Rana Azeem, met with the Ambassador of Pakistan to France, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, in Paris on May 6, 2026. The meeting focused on strengthening Pakistan-France bilateral relations, the PFUJ’s participation in the IFJ Centenary Congress, and the media’s critical role in shaping Pakistan’s global narrative.
Media as a Pillar of Democracy
Ambassador Baloch welcomed the delegation, emphasizing that journalism serves as the essential life line for any democratic society. She underscored the media's responsibility in promoting a positive image of Pakistan on the international stage.
During the briefing, the Ambassador detailed the Embassy's ongoing efforts to foster cooperation in trade, culture, academics, and media. She also highlighted Pakistan’s proactive initiatives at UNESCO, particularly regarding communication and information strategies.
IFJ Centenary Congress and Strategic Vision
President Rana Azeem briefed the Ambassador on the Centenary Congress of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). Running from May 5–7, 2026, the landmark event brings together over 300 journalists’ unions to celebrate 100 years of international solidarity.
The PFUJ leadership shared insights into the union's 5-year strategic plan, aimed at addressing future challenges in the media landscape. Key discussion points included:
Global Solidarity: Shaping common strategies for journalist safety and trade unionism.
Diplomatic Appreciation: The delegation praised Pakistani diplomats for their role in managing the narrative during last year's conflict with India.
Middle East Mediation: Recognition of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to mediate current regional instabilities.

The PFUJ delegation featured several prominent media figures, including Shakeel Ahmed, Tariq Usmani, Javeria Siddiqui, G. M. Jamali, and Abdur Razzaq Sial. Other notable attendees were Saima Siddique, Asmat ullah Hashwani, Ashraf Majeed, Ahtsham-ul-Haq, Syed Sana Zahra, Mazhar Amanat, and Namrah Nadir.
