University of Malakand Hosts IYQST 2025 Celebration

Peshawar, Pakistan — The University of Malakand (UoM) marked the International Year of Quantum Science & Technology 2025 (IYQST 2025) with a series of events aimed at promoting quantum advancements in Pakistan.

 

 

The Department of Physics and the Center for Computational Materials Science organized the celebration, which included a cake-cutting ceremony, a “Quantum Walk: Every Step Counts” activity, and a keynote lecture by Prof. Dr. Fida Younas Khattak on the roadmap for establishing quantum technology in Pakistan.

 

 

The event was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rashid Ahmad, Chairman Department of Physics Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad, Dean of Computing & Engineering Mr. Hamayun Khan, Provincial Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, faculty members, research scholars, and students.

 

 

In his address, Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad highlighted the critical role of quantum science in addressing global challenges, including the development of new medicines, sustainable energy solutions, and ultra-fast computing. Prof. Dr. Fida Younas Khattak emphasized the transformative potential of quantum technology for improving lives.

 

 

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rashid Ahmad pledged to empower students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in quantum science to drive meaningful innovation.

 

 

Provincial Minister Hamayun Khan assured government support for advancing quantum science and technology, describing it as vital for building a thriving future for Pakistan’s youth. Concluding the event, he extended New Year wishes to participants and planted a sapling on the university campus.
