Sri Lanka has been recognized as one of the top 10 most affordable travel destinations in Asia by a prominent travel publication. The island nation was highlighted in the special travel edition ‘Times Travel’, which provides tourists with budget-friendly travel options across Asia. Sri Lanka proudly stands among the top five in this esteemed list.
“Known for its tea plantations, beaches, and ancient cities like Sigiriya, Sri Lanka offers affordable accommodation, food, and transport. Budget guesthouses start around INR 800 – 1,500 per night,” stated the publication. The report suggests that tourists can enjoy the island’s diverse attractions with a daily budget of INR 1,800 – 2,500.
The report also included other affordable Asian destinations such as Vietnam, Nepal, India, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, and Myanmar. According to provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the island nation attracted 43,083 tourists recently, bringing the total arrivals for the year to 1,053,332.
Sri Lanka’s largest sources of tourist traffic are India, followed by the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom.
The country continues to charm visitors with its cost-effective travel experiences, especially during the off-season (December to April), where travelers can enjoy the destination for less than $40 a day.
