Six terrorists have been killed in a significant joint Kohat operation carried out by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lachi tehsil, Kohat district. This decisive action, confirmed by authorities on Sunday, successfully thwarts a major planned attack in the region.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shahbaz Elahi stated that the CTD and police launched the operation following credible intelligence. Reports indicated that a group of terrorists intended to orchestrate a large-scale attack within Lachi.
Details Emerge from the Successful Kohat Operation
A substantial contingent of CTD personnel and police initiated a search and strike operation. During the encounter, the suspects opened fire on the security teams, who then responded with force.
The exchange of fire resulted in the elimination of all six terrorists. Security forces also recovered weapons from the slain individuals, and a thorough search operation is currently underway, with the area cordoned off.
National Leadership Commends Kohat Operation
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has extended his tribute to both the police and CTD for their successful operation. He commended their professionalism and bravery, stating, "I am proud of the brave soldiers of the KP police and the CTD."
This impactful Kohat operation comes at a critical time for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has experienced a surge in terrorist activities over the past year. Just last month, six law enforcement personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were martyred in a separate terrorist attack on a police vehicle, also in Kohat.
According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) Annual Security Report 2025, fatalities from violence in KP dramatically increased from 1,620 to 2,331 in the past year. This highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by the province and the crucial role of such counter-terrorism efforts.
