The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Pakistan, Dan Stoenescu, has publicly urged Pakistani media to inform the public about illegal Russian airspace incursions that endanger civilian lives.

His call to action follows a series of drone breaches over Romanian territory between July 24 and July 26, 2026, which prompted Bucharest to summon the Russian Ambassador and formally expel a Moscow diplomat.
Romanian Military Downs Infiltrating Drones
The diplomatic row erupted after the Romanian Armed Forces successfully intercepted and downed three unauthorized drones operating within sovereign national boundaries.
Subsequent forensic examinations by state prosecutors yielded conclusive physical evidence regarding the origin of the unmanned aerial vehicles:

Forensic Proof: Collected drone fragments presented to Russian officials were formally identified as Russian hardware.
Direct Confrontation: Bucharest authorities handed over the physical wreckage directly to the Russian envoy during a formal summons at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Protest Against Incursions: Diplomatic leadership forcefully condemned the flights as irresponsible provocations threatening civilian lives and regional peace.
Firm Diplomatic Sanctions Handed to Moscow
In response to what Romanian leadership called "inadmissible and intolerable" violations of both NATO and European Union airspace, Romania enacted immediate diplomatic measures against the Russian diplomatic mission.
During the meeting, Romanian officials handed the ambassador a Note Verbale declaring a member of the Russian embassy persona non grata. The designated staff member was ordered to depart Romanian territory within 5 days. Concurrently, Romania recalled its own Ambassador to the Russian Federation back to Bucharest for strategic consultations.
Highlighting Regional Stability and Global Awareness
Speaking to the Pakistani public, Ambassador Stoenescu—a veteran diplomat who previously served as Minister Delegate for Romanians Abroad and EU Chargé d’affaires to Syria—emphasized the importance of global awareness regarding border violations in Eastern Europe.
He stressed that Russia holds full responsibility for deteriorating security along the European border. Moving forward, Romania intends to coordinate defense strategies closely with its NATO and EU partners to guarantee sovereign security.
