Peshawar, Pakistan — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has postponed its planned long march to Islamabad until October 4, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced.

Afridi said the march would leave Peshawar on October 4, following discussions within the party’s political committee.

The announcement came after PTI leaders held consultations on whether to delay the march to allow additional time for preparations. Party sources said the leadership had agreed that the protest should be postponed for several days.

Afridi had earlier insisted that the march would go ahead despite government measures, including road blockades and the deployment of security personnel. He criticised the installation of road barriers and accused authorities of creating obstacles to the movement.

During a press conference in Peshawar, the chief minister also raised concerns over alleged restrictions on PTI leaders and media coverage of provincial officials. He questioned the closure of parts of the provincial secretariat following a security alert and alleged that provincial ministers had faced intimidation and interference.

The allegations could not be independently verified.

Afridi said PTI would continue its political campaign and called for supporters to remain prepared for the march. He added that the party’s political committee would provide further details after completing its deliberations.

The planned mobilisation comes amid continuing political tensions between PTI and the federal government, with the opposition party maintaining demands over the release of its founder and broader political and constitutional issues.
