Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expresses profound alarm over the rapidly deteriorating security landscape across the region. The party urgently calls upon the government to convene an immediate OIC emergency meeting. This action aims to forge a unified response and prevent the region and the Muslim Ummah from being drawn into another foreign-imposed, catastrophic conflict.
PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram emphasizes the critical need for swift diplomatic intervention. Such measures are imperative to stop the Muslim world from becoming embroiled in a devastating war. He warns that escalating tensions could destabilize the entire Middle East, carrying severe implications for global peace, economic stability, and the security of the Ummah.
Addressing Regional Instability
The PTI asserts that alleged American and Israeli attacks on Iran represent a blatant violation of international law and the sovereignty of a neighboring Muslim state. Such reckless military actions risk igniting a broader regional conflict with dire consequences for both the Middle East and global stability.
Akram stresses that Pakistan must ensure its territory, airspace, and logistical facilities remain unused for any military operations. These operations, he notes, could violate international law or further destabilize the already fragile region.
Internal Political Demands and Concerns
At this critical juncture, the PTI information secretary urges the government to immediately release incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan. The party believes Khan possesses the unique credibility and leadership required to guide the Muslim Ummah through this historic crisis and mobilize diplomatic efforts to convene the emergency OIC meeting.
The PTI strongly rejects the Islamabad High Court’s recent decision regarding the medical treatment of its founder. Akram argues that leaving the matter to the same executive authorities, whose negligence has already jeopardized Khan’s health, constitutes a failure to uphold the court's constitutional duty to protect fundamental rights.
Furthermore, the party highlights that Imran Khan has spent approximately 952 days in imprisonment, including 130 days in complete solitary confinement. These conditions, the PTI states, violate internationally recognized human rights standards, including the UN's Mandela Rules.
The government also faces demands for clear and immediate answers regarding an alleged Rs11 billion Gulfstream aircraft. This plane was reportedly sent to Vienna under the pretext of a 'technical inspection'. The PTI considers it unacceptable for the ruling elite to indulge in such extravagant luxuries at taxpayers’ expense while ordinary Pakistanis grapple with soaring inflation and rising fuel prices.
Akram demands the immediate release of the aircraft’s full passenger list and logbook. This transparency is crucial, he states, for the nation to understand who traveled on the plane and for what purpose, ensuring accountability.
Additionally, Akram condemns the arrests of leaders of the Gilgit-Baltistan Awami Action Committee and the use of the Anti-Terrorism Act against political activists. He views the detention of Advocate Ehsan Ali and other leaders for exercising their democratic rights as a troubling attempt to criminalize legitimate dissent and undermine political freedoms.
