ISLAMABAD — In a major boost to Pakistan’s national conservation efforts, SK Hydro Private Limited has successfully organized its latest tree plantation campaign. Executed in close collaboration with the local government and the Forestry Department, the initiative reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
For the past 8 years, SK Hydro has remained a steadfast partner in the Billion Tree Tsunami initiative. By integrating ecological preservation with energy development, the company is helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change in the region.
A Milestone in Biodiversity: 160,000 Saplings Planted
The sustained effort has resulted in the planting of approximately 160,000 saplings across various project sites. This milestone reflects a strategic alignment between international energy stakeholders and Pakistan’s federal environmental goals.
The campaign focuses on:
Reforestation: Restoring native flora to prevent soil erosion and improve air quality.
Public-Private Partnership: Leveraging the expertise of the Forestry Department to ensure high survival rates for the new saplings.
Climate Action: Actively contributing to the global movement for carbon sequestration.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
Representatives from Energy China (@EnergyChina_Pak) emphasized that these plantation drives are integral to their operational philosophy. By working alongside local authorities, SK Hydro ensures that its infrastructure projects contribute positively to the local ecosystem rather than just the national power grid.
The local government has lauded the 8-year consistency of this program, noting that such large-scale biological interventions are crucial for maintaining the ecological balance in areas surrounding major hydroelectric projects.
