Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met with Alexandra Berg von Linde to review bilateral cooperation and explore new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the mining and energy sectors.
During the meeting, both sides acknowledged the longstanding diplomatic and economic ties between Pakistan and Sweden, emphasizing the need to further strengthen industrial and commercial partnerships.
Ambassador Berg von Linde highlighted Sweden’s 77-year engagement with Pakistan, noting cooperation across sectors such as transport, telecommunications, packaging, and industry. She added that more than 40 companies are currently members of the Swedish Business Council in Pakistan, reflecting Sweden’s strong commercial footprint in the country.
The Ambassador identified mining as a key sector for future collaboration, stating that Swedish firms possess advanced expertise in digitalization, sustainability, mining services, and environmental protection. She noted that Swedish companies are already contributing to Pakistan’s mining industry and see strong prospects for further expansion.
Referring to the landmark Reko Diq project, she said Swedish companies are actively supporting the development by providing equipment, connectivity solutions, and explosives-related services.
Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik appreciated Sweden’s continued investment and business presence in Pakistan and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with international partners to develop the country’s natural resource sector.
He described the Reko Diq project as “the jewel of Pakistan’s mining sector,” adding that despite challenges the project has not experienced a single day of delay, crediting the professionalism and dedication of all stakeholders involved.
The minister also announced that Pakistan is expanding its mining activities and plans to highlight new investment opportunities at the upcoming Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2026. He invited Swedish mining companies to broaden their engagement in Pakistan beyond the Reko Diq project.
Ambassador Berg von Linde recalled that Sweden participated in the previous edition of the forum with an official pavilion, while five Swedish companies exhibited independently. She expressed optimism that even more Swedish firms, including representatives from the Business Development Association, would attend this year’s event.
Minister Malik noted that PMIF 2026 is expected to be larger and more impactful than the previous edition and encouraged Swedish companies to explore Pakistan’s exploration sector, which holds significant untapped potential.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Sweden cooperation and agreed to continue engagement to promote investment, technological exchange, and sustainable development in key sectors.
