The World Ambassador
________
Vienna, Austria: The Permanent Mission of China organized a high-level event in Vienna under the theme “Promoting Global Development and Governance through Vienna-based Organizations.” The gathering brought together Permanent Representatives from various countries as well as senior officials from key multilateral institutions including the IAEA, UNODC, UNIDO, UNOOSA, and CTBTO.
His Excellency Ambassador Mohammad Kamran Akhtar, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Vienna, participated in the event and underscored Pakistan’s strong support for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s major global initiatives, including the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the Global Governance Initiative (GGI). He described both initiatives as timely and essential for fostering development and prosperity across the developing world.
Ambassador Akhtar emphasized that every area of work undertaken by Vienna-based organizations directly aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He highlighted that economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social progress are interconnected priorities that require coordinated global action.
He further noted that sustainable development can only be achieved through a shared vision and common objectives. Agencies based in Vienna—such as UNIDO, IAEA, CTBTO, UNODC, and UNOOSA—play a crucial technical and operational role, linking global commitments with practical, action-oriented mandates.
In his remarks, the Ambassador stressed that global development continues to be a central priority for developing nations. In an increasingly interconnected world, he said, meaningful progress depends on collective action, strong partnerships, capacity-building, and targeted technical assistance.
