Korean Wave in Pakistan: NUML and Korean Embassy host soft power seminar fosters friendship, learning, and cultural appreciation

The K Soft Power Seminar 2025, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in collaboration with the National University of Modern Languages, was held at the National University of Modern Languages on the 17th of April, 2025.

 

 

Korean Ambassador Park Kijun in his opening remarks mentioned that Korea and Pakistan are friendly nations. He also mentioned how Pakistani people love Korean culture, especially Korean drams and music. The Ambassador also mentioned that culture has the ability to affect hearts and minds beyond borders, and it is an effective tool to foster better relations and understanding between the two nations.

 

 

Director General of the National University of Modern Languages, Brigadier Shehzad Munir HI(M) (Retd) had joined the event as well. During his remarks Brigadier Shehzad Munir mentioned that Korea and Pakistan have great relations and Korean soft power has influenced Pakistan in a very positive way. Brigadier Shehzad Munir said that many the National University of Modern Languages has a separate Korean Language Department, called ‘King Sejong Institute’ which is a testament to how softy power affects people beyond borders. He also mentioned that Pakistani young generation is very fond of Korean culture and this has deepened the friendship between both countries.

 

 

The seminar featured famous speakers from Korea, including Alex Choi, a Korean team leader of global business strategy at Korea Creative Content Agency. She mentioned that most of Pakistan’s population is young and this is a great opportunity for Pakistan and Korea to collaborate in terms of soft power and culture.

 

The seminar also featured Zahid Hussain, a Pakistani living in Korea. He is a broadcaster and also the President of the Global Korea Scholarship Alumni.

 

The Head of the Department of Korean Languages, Ihtisham Hussain, and the Director Iksi, Dr. Atif Faraz and a great number of students from National University of Modern Languages attended the seminar.
