The World Journalists Federation (WJF) strongly condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the alleged death threats issued to senior journalist Malik Zubair Awan by unidentified individuals.
Such acts of intimidation and threats against journalists represent a direct attack on freedom of speech, press independence, and the fundamental right to report without fear. The Federation firmly believes that journalism is not a crime, and those attempting to silence the truth must be held fully accountable under the law.
In a statement, the Secretary General of the World Journalists Federation said:
“We stand in complete solidarity with Malik Zubair Awan and call upon the Government of Pakistan and law enforcement authorities to take immediate and effective action against all those involved in issuing threats to him. Protecting journalists means protecting democracy itself.”
The World Journalists Federation reaffirms its unwavering commitment to defending press freedom and the safety of journalists around the world. The Federation also urges international and local human rights organizations to closely monitor this situation and ensure that justice is served without delay.
