On World Children’s Day, the world is reminded of the universal rights of children to live in peace, happiness, and security. However, this year’s occasion sheds light on the unimaginable suffering endured by children in Gaza and Palestine.
Under relentless bombardment, Gaza has become a graveyard for innocent and defenseless children. Over 17,000 Palestinian children have been killed, thousands remain missing, tens of thousands are injured, and over a thousand amputations have been performed, often without anesthesia. More than 35,000 children have lost one or both parents, while many have lost their entire families.
UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has highlighted that up to 700 Palestinian children are kidnapped and held hostages annually—a practice ongoing for decades.
Malnutrition has claimed the lives of 3,500 Palestinian children, while countless others suffer from hunger, disease, displacement, and a lack of basic necessities. These horrors mark deep wounds on the conscience of humanity.
On this solemn day, it is imperative for the global community to take immediate and decisive action to end impunity for crimes against Palestinian children.
