A grand ceremony was organized to pay homage to the martyrs of September 6, 1965, at a local hotel in Wah Cantt. The chief guest, Major General (R) Dr. Samreez Salik, paid tribute to team PYL for showing solidarity with the forces of Pakistan and said that there were speculations about the nascent state of Pakistan, predicting that it would not last long. However, Pakistan overcame impossible challenges and is now impregnable, thanks to the sacrifices of the forces. He added that defeating the enemy’s nefarious ambitions in the war on terror, victory is no longer based on explosives; instead, people are being targeted through social media. The unity between the people and the forces is of great importance.
The ceremony was presided over by political, social, and business figure Zaildar Zaheer Shah, who said that it is obligatory for everyone to sacrifice for the sake of the country. He emphasized that through education and training, teachers can play a pivotal role in guiding the youth away from the evils of social media negativity.
The guest of honor, Col. (R) Khalid Taimur Akram, said that the spread of fake news on social media is creating distance and mistrust between the people and the forces. Col. (R) Farrukh Mehmood Malik said that the martyrs’ sacrifices cannot be denied, as they are the foundation of the country’s security. The event organizer, Chairman PYL Abid Hussain, narrated a brief history of the league’s enthusiastic participation in Pakistan Defense Day celebrations since 1976.
The event was conducted by chief organizer and journalist Iffat Rauf in an impressive manner. The son of Major Abdul Wahab Shaheed (Maj. Salahuddin) and the parents and brother of Captain Hafiz Umar Farooq were welcomed with flower bouquets. The students of schools and colleges energized the atmosphere by presenting beautiful songs, speeches, and enthusiastic tableaus.
