Torrential Rains Claim Seven Lives in Balochistan

QUETTA, PAKISTAN — Continuous heavy rains in Balochistan over the past five days have claimed the lives of at least seven people.

 

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the downpour has led to the closure of the N-70 highway, which connects Balochistan to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

 

In Quetta alone, the heavy rains have caused damage to 258 homes, as reported by the PDMA.

 

The Meteorological Office has forecasted rainfall with thunderstorms in Karachi and other districts of Sindh starting from Wednesday until July 1st. Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to move towards the eastern parts of Pakistan from June 26th onwards. Additionally, a low-pressure system is located south of Indian Gujarat.

 

From June 26th to July 1st, Karachi, Mithi, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushero Feroze, Khairpur, Dadu, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, and Larkana are likely to experience rain with wind/thundershowers and isolated heavy falls intermittently.

 

Similarly, Balochistan’s Lasbella, Khuzdar, Awaran, Jhal Magsi, Kalat, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Zhob, and Barkhan districts are expected to receive rain with wind/thundershowers from June 26th to June 28th.
