The High Commission of the Republic of Rwanda in Pakistan will host a solemn event to mark Kwibuka 31, the 31st commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. The event will take place on April 7, 2025, at Serena Hotel, Islamabad, gathering diplomats, government officials, members of the Rwandan community and friends of Rwanda. Kwibuka, meaning “to remember”, serves as a time to reflect on the tragedy of the genocide, which claimed over one million lives.

The people of Rwanda honor the Tutsi who lost their lives and pay tribute to the survivors. The country will be mourning for 100 days. The ceremony will feature a keynote address by Ms. Harerimana Fatou, the High Commissioner of Rwanda to Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The program will also include a candle-lighting ceremony, testimonies from survivors, lectures on the genocide against the Tutsi and keynote address of the Chief guest.

Speaking about the commemoration, Ms Harerimana Fatou stated, “Kwibuka is a time to remember, reflect, and recommit to the values of unity, tolerance, and justice. It is our shared responsibility to ensure that the lessons of Rwanda’s past are used to create a more peaceful and compassionate world.”
