In a significant diplomatic development, President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan met with Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P Khorev, to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

 

President Zardari emphasized Pakistan’s keen interest in bolstering cooperation with Russia, particularly in the vital sectors of energy and trade. He advocated for the establishment of Russian banks in Pakistan to facilitate increased bilateral trade opportunities.

 

During the meeting, both leaders underscored the importance of enhancing cultural exchanges, particularly in the realms of television and film industries, to foster deeper understanding and mutual appreciation between the peoples of Pakistan and Russia.

 

President Zardari conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to Russian President Vladimir Putin on his re-election, expressing optimism for Russia’s continued progress and regional stability under President Putin’s leadership.

 

In light of recent tragic events, President Zardari extended his condolences to the Russian people over the loss of lives in the terrorist attack in Moscow on March 22, reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity in the global fight against terrorism.

 

Ambassador Khorev reiterated Russia’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s economic development and prosperity, highlighting ongoing collaboration on crucial issues such as counter-terrorism and combating drug trafficking. He expressed Russia’s desire to double the current volume of bilateral trade with Pakistan, reflecting the shared goal of deepening economic ties.

 

In a reciprocal gesture, Ambassador Khorev thanked President Zardari for his condolences and extended warm congratulations on his assumption of office.
