Lahore: Over the past decade, Asian cinema has steadily transformed from a regional industry into a global powerhouse. With films from South Korea, Japan, China, and India winning major awards at Cannes, Venice, and the Oscars, the world is paying closer attention than ever to stories rooted in Asian culture.

In 2024, Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda’s *Monster* received international acclaim, while Korean thrillers continued to dominate streaming platforms worldwide. Similarly, Pakistani independent films gained momentum at major festivals, proving that powerful storytelling transcends borders.

Streaming platforms have played a crucial role in this cultural shift. Services like Netflix and Amazon Prime have invested heavily in Asian productions, giving filmmakers the opportunity to reach audiences beyond their home markets. This global exposure has opened doors for actors, directors, and writers who previously faced limitations in distribution.

The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), set for October 2025, is expected to further highlight this trend. With a strong lineup of international premieres and collaborations, TIFF continues to bridge the gap between Asian creators and the global film industry.

As audiences grow more curious about diverse perspectives, Asian cinema is not only thriving but shaping the very future of global storytelling.
