Caretaker Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Syed Jamal Shah, a distinguished visual artist, inaugurated his latest collection, “Celebration of a Dehumanized Existence,” at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) National Art Gallery. Acclaimed Miniature Painting Ustad Bashir Ahmed graced the event as the Chief Guest.

The exhibition delves into the profound symbolism and message encapsulated in Mr. Shah’s paintings and sculptures. Titled with universal interpretation, the collection transcends themes of peace, positivity, and harmony, aiming to evoke reflection on the complexities of the human experience.

Jamal Shah’s work is recognized for its inquisitorial, soul-searching, and heartbreaking themes, engaging viewers in a contemplative dialogue with the world. The paintings, saturated with symbols and allusions, offer a memoir of the working class, reflecting on the decline of working-class identity and the impact of historical circumstances.

The Director General of PNCA, M. Ayoub Jamali, expressed deep honor in hosting Mr. Jamal Shah’s first solo exhibition at the National Art Gallery, emphasizing the significance of showcasing Shah’s work in a national space.

In his remarks, Jamal Shah stated, “As an artist, my work is a reflection of the society I live in. It is an attempt to engage in a dialogue with my fellow human beings, to explore and confront the contradictions and struggles that exist within our society.” He highlighted the role of art in serving humanity and contributing to societal betterment.

Chief Guest Ustad Bashir Ahmed praised Jamal Shah’s expression, describing it as decipherable by various segments of society. He emphasized the paintings’ portrayal of human beings’ inherent urge to interact, creating crossroads between cultures.

The exhibition will run until March 3, 2024, from 10 am to 4 pm daily (closed on Saturdays). Attendees are invited to experience Jamal Shah’s profound exploration of societal dynamics through the lens of art.
