The President of Maldives, Mohammad Muizhu, has given a strict ultimatum to Indian soldiers, instructing them to return to their country by March 15.
This warning comes shortly after President Muizhu’s visit to China to meet with President Xi Jinping, as reported by the World News Agency.
The official statement from the office of the Maldivian President emphasizes that, according to President Muizhu’s policy, there is no longer a place for Indian soldiers in Maldives, and they are required to leave and return to India.
Notably, the statement did not specify the exact number of Indian soldiers present in Maldives, but estimates suggest around 100. It is worth recalling that while Maldives and India have historically maintained ideal relations, tensions rose during President Abdullah Yameen’s term in 2013.
The anti-India policy was later reversed by Ibrahim Saleh, who succeeded Yameen, restoring cooperation between the two nations.
