President Asif Ali Zardari Meets Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

A high-level delegation led by Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland met with President Asif Ali Zardari to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation. During the meeting, President Zardari emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the Commonwealth, particularly in the areas of parliamentary institutions, focusing on young parliamentarians and students.

 

President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s significant efforts in combating climate change, noting that the country has faced severe repercussions. He mentioned that over 2 million mangroves have been planted in Sindh to mitigate the effects of climate change, and Pakistan has earned $27 million from trading carbon credits on the international market. Additionally, the Sindh government has commenced the construction of 2 million sustainable houses in anticipation of the 2022 floods.

 

Secretary General Patricia Scotland acknowledged Pakistan’s substantial challenges related to climate change and commended the country’s initiatives to address these issues. She underscored the dynamic cooperation between the Commonwealth and Pakistan, particularly in the aftermath of the devastating floods.

 

The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation of Patricia Scotland’s contributions to strengthening the partnership between the Commonwealth and Pakistan, and a commitment to further enhance collaboration in various sectors.
