Islamabad: According to a statement issued by the Presidency, President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as the Chief of Army Staff as well as the Chief of Defence Forces.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had sent the summary for Asim Munir’s appointment to the Presidency earlier this evening, which has now been approved.

Field Marshal Asim Munir has become the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces, while also continuing to serve as the Chief of Army Staff. The tenure for both positions has been set at five years.

Additionally, President Zardari has approved the prime minister’s recommendation to extend the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu as Chief of Air Staff by two more years. This extension will take effect after his current five-year term concludes in March 2026.
