Pakistan’s government has decided to ban the former ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and will submit a petition to the Supreme Court. This announcement was made by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar during a press conference on Monday. The minister emphasized that significant progress in the country was impossible with the PTI’s continued presence.

“Based on the evidence, the government will request a ban on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI),” Tarar stated, noting that the federal government had resolved to seek this ban through the Supreme Court. He referenced the foreign funding case, the alleged US cipher, sabotage of the previous IMF program, and an anti-Pakistan resolution in the American Congress as clear evidence supporting the decision.

Minister Tarar asserted that under Article 17 of the Constitution, the government is empowered to ban political parties when necessary, and in this instance, the PTI’s actions warranted such measures. “They attempted to undermine the IMF deal,” he claimed.

Additionally, the minister announced that the government plans to file a review of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the reserved seats case. “The Supreme Court granted relief to the PTI that was never requested,” he contended. Tarar asserted that the government reserved the right to appeal this decision, arguing that the women affected believed a review was necessary. “We will question whether those who submitted affidavits asked for the relief that has been granted,” he concluded.
