In a significant move to further strengthen the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan will begin offering visa-free travel for Chinese citizens starting August 14, 2024. This landmark decision was revealed during a high-level meeting with a Chinese delegation led by Minister Wang Fukang.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the mutual benefits of enhancing bilateral ties, particularly in relocating Chinese industries to Pakistan and expanding cooperation in key sectors such as industry, agriculture, and information technology. He reassured that robust security measures are in place to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan, following a recent security incident in Bisham.
“The visa-free facility is a testament to the strong, ironclad friendship between Pakistan and China. It will open new avenues for collaboration and deepen our strategic partnership,” stated Prime Minister Sharif.
The visiting Chinese delegation is set to explore investment opportunities and collaborative ventures in various sectors, including IT, energy, and mining. This initiative is expected to significantly boost economic ties and pave the way for new business and investment prospects.
In recent years, Pakistan and China have made significant strides in facilitating smooth travel and business exchanges through streamlined visa processes, direct flights, and improved infrastructure under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The new visa-free policy is a continuation of these efforts, highlighting the depth of diplomatic relations and the commitment to fostering closer ties between the two nations.
