Pakistan and Russia Strengthen Parliamentary Relations through MoU Signing

The Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matvienko, met with the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, resulting in a significant advancement in the relationship between the two countries. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Federation Council of Russia and the Senate of Pakistan, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to furthering bilateral cooperation and dialogue.

 

 

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the traditionally friendly relations shared by Russia and Pakistan, which are marked by an active political dialogue at the highest levels and robust inter-parliamentary relations. Speaker Valentina Matvienko praised Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for his pivotal role in bolstering bilateral ties, especially his contributions within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). She acknowledged his efforts during his tenure as Prime Minister of Pakistan and as Chairman of the Russia-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group.

 

 

As a gesture of goodwill and continued cooperation, Russian Speaker extended an invitation to Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for an official visit to Russia in 2025, signaling a future of strengthened parliamentary engagement between the two nations.

 

In addition to the official discussions, Matvienko also visited the Senate Museum, where she left a note in the Senate Book of honorary guests, marking the occasion as a milestone in Pakistan-Russia relations.

 

 

This meeting underscores the importance of fostering deeper ties between Pakistan and Russia, reinforcing a relationship that continues to thrive through mutual understanding and cooperation.
