Pakistan and Iran revealed that their respective envoys would resume their posts by the end of the week, marking a significant step towards de-escalation. This development comes nearly a week after Iran conducted strikes on alleged terror targets within Pakistan, leading to counterstrikes by Islamabad on purported terror hideouts across the border. The exchange resulted in casualties, with at least 11 civilians losing their lives, 9 in Iran and 2 in Pakistan.

During the heightened tensions, Islamabad recalled its ambassador from Tehran last Wednesday and advised the Iranian envoy, who was away in his home country, not to return. Additionally, all high-level visits between the two nations were temporarily suspended.

A joint press release issued by the foreign ministries of Pakistan and Iran on Monday outlined that Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, would visit Pakistan on January 29 at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart, Jalil Abbas Jilani.

This announcement followed a phone call on Friday between the top diplomats of both countries, where they mutually agreed to defuse tensions and fully restore diplomatic ties.
