Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Delivers Inspiring Speech during Special Convocation at NUST Islamabad

Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim delivered a powerful and thought-provoking address today at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad. In a speech that echoed the philosophies of Allama Iqbal, Prime Minister Anwar charted a vision of renewal, progress, and unity between Malaysia and Pakistan.

 

 

According to the press note, The Malaysian Prime Minister was honored with a doctorate, honoris causa, in recognition of his leadership and the intellectual bond between the two nations. Speaking to a distinguished audience of professors, students, and dignitaries, Prime Minister Anwar emphasized the historical and contemporary significance of knowledge, highlighting Pakistan’s rich intellectual heritage dating back to ancient civilizations such as Taxila, and more recent contributions by world-renowned scientists like Dr. Abdus Salam and Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman.

 

Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged the close bilateral relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, particularly in trade, education, and cultural exchange. He noted that trade between the two nations has reached nearly USD 2 billion annually, with potential for further collaboration in the halal industry, Islamic finance, and innovative climate policies. “Both countries are committed to unity, progress, and justice, and this shared commitment has strengthened our ties over the years,” he said.

 

 

Referencing Iqbal’s philosophical works, Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the shared principles that unite Malaysia’s MADANI vision with Iqbal’s teachings. He spoke of the importance of self-reformation, unity, and proactive effort to counter the decline of the Muslim world. “Iqbal’s wisdom is as relevant today as it was more than a century ago,” the Prime Minister remarked, urging the youth to embrace intellectual and societal renewal.

 

The Prime Minister also touched on pressing global issues, including the genocide in Gaza and the unfolding violence in Lebanon. He called on the international community to stand firm against Israel’s actions, emphasizing the need for immediate cessation of hostilities. “We must demand an end to Israel’s killing spree and stand unwavering in our pursuit of justice,” he said.

 

 

Moreover, The Malaysia PM stressed the importance of combating extremism and terrorism, advocating for a unified approach that includes educational and social reforms. He also called for increased roles for youth and women in shaping the future of both nations.

 

Prime Minister Ibrahim concluded his address by calling for stronger collaboration between Malaysia and Pakistan to counter extremism and promote the empowerment of youth and women. He reiterated the need for a unified approach to close the development gap between the Global North and South, ensuring that knowledge and opportunity are shared equitably. Quoting Allama Iqbal, he urged both nations to soar to new heights: “You are an eagle, flight is your vocation.”
