An important meeting of representative federations of workers from across Pakistan, with a special focus on Sindh, was held today in the board room of the Karachi Press Club. The meeting marked the establishment of a joint forum named the “Movement for Labor Rights (MLR)” to combat increasing anti-labor measures and the recently proposed Sindh Labor Code.
In the meeting, labor organizations decided to launch an organized and united struggle across Pakistan immediately after Eid to protect labor rights. The MLR aims to fight against any legislation that undermines the basic rights of workers.
The meeting also included detailed discussions on the draft labor code prepared by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Sindh Labor Department. The participants unanimously agreed that this draft labor code poses a significant threat to the fundamental rights of workers and its implementation would lead to the loss of their acquired rights.
Furthermore, it was decided that more labor federations would be invited to join the MLR to strengthen the movement and ensure a broader representation of workers’ interests.
The Movement for Labor Rights is committed to safeguarding the rights of workers and will take all necessary steps to oppose any anti-labor legislation. The united front formed by these labor organizations signifies a major step towards ensuring that workers’ rights are not compromised in Pakistan.
