Israel has announced a complete halt to humanitarian aid entering Gaza in an effort to pressure Hamas into agreeing to new terms for a ceasefire extension, officials confirmed on Sunday. This decision comes a day after the initial 42-day truce expired.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the proposed extension, covering Ramadan and Passover, was suggested by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff. However, Hamas rejected the plan, calling it a violation of the existing ceasefire agreement.
Egypt, a key mediator, condemned the move, warning against the politicization of humanitarian aid. Aid organizations, including the UN and Red Cross, have also criticized Israel’s decision, citing worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where over 48,000 people have died in the ongoing conflict.
With no agreement on the next phase of the truce, tensions remain high. Israel has warned of “additional consequences” if Hamas does not comply, while Hamas has called for international pressure to resume aid and uphold the original ceasefire terms.
