ISLAMABAD: In a significant display of regional solidarity, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, to express deep sympathy over the devastating floods that have wreaked havoc in various parts of Pakistan.
President Pezeshkian conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the catastrophic flooding and assured Iran’s full solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan in this time of crisis. He emphasized Iran’s readiness to extend all possible humanitarian assistance, including relief aid and technical support, to help Pakistan respond effectively to the disaster.
During the discussion, the two leaders also touched on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in disaster management, regional stability, and humanitarian efforts. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to the Iranian President for his support and solidarity, noting that such gestures of friendship strengthen the bond between the two neighboring countries.
Heavy monsoon rains have triggered severe flooding in multiple provinces of Pakistan, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and housing. Thousands of people have been displaced, and emergency rescue and relief operations are underway. The Pakistani government has declared an emergency in flood-affected regions and appealed for international support.
Iran’s assurance of immediate assistance reflects growing regional cooperation in addressing climate-related disasters, which have become increasingly frequent and devastating in South Asia. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and working together to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
This latest diplomatic exchange underlines the close ties between Iran and Pakistan, with both nations pledging to stand by each other in times of crisis and enhance future collaboration in humanitarian and disaster-relief initiatives.
