In a significant display of diplomatic relations, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of China, Xi Jinping, along with his spouse, hosted a grand welcome ceremony in honor of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam, To Lam, and his spouse. The ceremony took place in Beijing on the morning of August 19, 2024.
The event, which featured a 21-gun salute, represents the highest ceremonial honor accorded to a head of state. This grand gesture underscores the profound respect and the strong bilateral relations between China and Vietnam.
The State visit, which began on August 18 and will continue through August 20, is being conducted at the invitation of General Secretary Xi Jinping and his spouse. This visit marks an important chapter in the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between the two neighboring countries.
During the ceremony, President Xi Jinping invited President To Lam to the honorary podium, where they stood together as the 21-cannon salute resounded through the grounds. Following the salute, the two leaders proceeded to inspect the guards of honor from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, further symbolizing the strong military ties and mutual respect between China and Vietnam.
This visit is expected to further enhance the longstanding partnership between the two nations, with discussions on various aspects of cooperation expected to take place during President To Lam’s stay in China.
