In a significant diplomatic move, Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, held a strategic meeting with Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf on Tuesday at the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad.
Discussions revolved around mutual interests, with a particular focus on advancing bilateral cooperation in the crucial realms of maritime and regional security. Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula highlighted Ethiopia’s pivotal role in promoting pan-Africanism, fostering a spirit of brotherhood, fraternity, and collaboration among the African nations.
The Ambassador briefed Admiral Naveed Ashraf on Ethiopia’s successful hosting of the 37th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, attended by more than 49 heads of state and senior international officials. Emphasis was placed on Ethiopia’s commitment to regional security and its significant contributions to the fight against terrorism.
The meeting also delved into Ethiopia’s regional integration initiatives, including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, port diversification, and energy export to neighboring countries. Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula shared insights on the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland, aligning with international rules and fostering just and equitable development across the region.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf acknowledged Ethiopia’s role in regional integration and congratulated the Government of the FDRE on the successful AU summit. He underscored the historical significance of Ethiopia and highlighted the immense potential for bilateral cooperation, particularly in the maritime domain.
Both leaders acknowledged the rich civilizations of their respective nations, expressing the shared commitment to leveraging this heritage for strengthened diplomatic ties and mutually beneficial collaborations.
This diplomatic exchange lays the foundation for an era of increased maritime cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan, uniting the nations in their pursuit of regional stability and prosperity.
