Embassy of Ethiopia in Pakistan Celebrates 128th Adwa Victory Day with Grand Commemoration

The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) in Pakistan marked the 128th Adwa Victory Day with a dignified celebration attended by esteemed dignitaries, government officials, and representatives from various sectors. The commemorative event showcased Ethiopia’s historical triumph against colonizers, emphasizing its role in Pan-Africanism and regional integration.

 

The ceremony, held in Islamabad, drew prominent figures including Senior Parliamentarian Khawaja Muhammad Asif as the chief guest and Governor Sindh, Kamran Tessori as the guest of honor. The gathering comprised government officials, Members of Parliament, diplomatic corps, business leaders, civil society, media, and the Ethiopian diaspora in Pakistan.

 

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the FDRE to Pakistan, Jemal Beker Abdula, expressed heartfelt felicitations to Africa, particularly Ethiopia, on the 128th Adwa Victory Day. Under the theme “Adwa Black People’s Victory,” the event showcased documentaries on Ethiopia’s historic battle and its enduring commitment to freedom, equality, and liberty.

 

Highlighting the significance of the Adwa victory on March 2, 1896, Ambassador Jemal Beker underscored its transformative impact on global history, politics, and social narratives. The victory served as a beacon of inspiration for Pan-Africanism and anti-colonial movements worldwide.

 

Addressing the audience, Chief Guest Khawaja Muhammad Asif extended congratulations to Ethiopia and Africa on the Adwa Victory Day. He emphasized the importance of exploring African markets, particularly through Ethiopia, as a gateway to the continent.

 

Ambassador Jemal Beker outlined Ethiopia’s initiatives for regional integration, including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and the Green Legacy Initiative spearheaded by Prime Minister Dr Abi Ahmed. The latter, focused on climate change and food security, saw the planting of 32.5 billion seedlings in the last four years.

 

The ambassador announced the upcoming Hijra Trip II, a business delegation from Pakistan to Ethiopia, aimed at bolstering economic ties. Last year witnessed a historic delegation of 75 businesspersons from Pakistan to Ethiopia.

 

The celebration not only reflected Ethiopia’s historic triumph at Adwa but also underscored the commitment to fostering bilateral ties and collaboration between Ethiopia and Pakistan in various domains, further solidifying the enduring friendship between the two nations.
