KARACHI : In a vibrant display of interfaith harmony and national unity, a joint celebration of the Hindu festival of Holi and the Muslim festival of Eid was held at Vankwani House, Karachi. The event showcased Pakistan’s cultural diversity and commitment to peaceful coexistence.
Hosted by Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan Hindu Council and Chairman of the Dr. Prem Kumar Sital Das Memorial Trust, the celebration aimed to promote mutual respect and understanding among Pakistan’s diverse faith communities.
“Holi marks the victory of good over evil, as symbolized by the burning of Holika,” said Dr. Vankwani, adding that both Holi and Eid offer meaningful opportunities for forgiveness, renewal, and togetherness. He emphasized that the Pakistan Hindu Council strongly advocates for cultural exchange and interfaith dialogue as key components for fostering a peaceful and united society.
He also noted that the Holi celebration, originally scheduled for mid-March, was postponed in respect of the holy month of Ramadan.
The event featured a spectacular fireworks display, which Dr. Vankwani described as a symbol of a bright and inclusive future for all Pakistanis, regardless of their religious backgrounds.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Vankwani highlighted the symbolism of the national flag: the green representing all communities, and the white signifying peace and prosperity. “Holi is a celebration of life, colors, and humanity — it’s about community, nature, and the spirit of renewal,” he added.
The celebration included separate cake-cutting ceremonies for Holi and Eid, along with soulful bhajans, patriotic songs, cultural performances, and traditional cuisine. The festive atmosphere was enjoyed by a wide range of attendees, including foreign diplomats, religious leaders, civil society representatives, business figures, and members of the media.
